Fish processing is a major industry in Iceland, with huge volumes of freshly caught fish and other seafood being prepared and packaged for export in state-of-the-art processing plants.The hub of this activity is Reykjavík, while the AIP network also embraces the fishing and fish processing centre of Akranes.
Major companies operate fish processing plants all round the coast of Iceland including HB Grandi hf, Sæver hf, Sjóli hf and Toppfiskur.
At the cutting edge of this industry is HB Grandi, which has processing plants at Reykjavík, Akranes and Vopnafjörður in [??north-east??] Iceland.
HB Grandi is one of the largest fishing and fish processing companies in Iceland. It operates a modern fleet of about a dozen trawlers and purse-seiners. The company employs a total of 700 people including nearly 400 at sea.
